Things to Leave at Home
Personal Electrical Devices
For safety reasons, we must ask you to leave any electrical appliances such as hair dryers and electric shavers at home (unless battery operated). If you must bring an electrical device, it needs to be inspected and approved by our Bio-Medical Department. Please ask your primary nurse to arrange this for you.
Valuables
For safekeeping, valuables such as jewelry and money are best left at home, as Speare Memorial cannot assume responsibility for valuables kept at the bedside. If you must bring valuables with you, you may wish to secure them in the Hospital safe. The nurse can make arrangements for the deposit and return of these items.
Patients Guide
Visitors
Visits from family and friends can be a high point of your day and are encouraged during your recovery period. To balance visits with your recovery, please refer to the following guidelines for visitors:
- Visitors should check in at the nurses station before entering the patients room.
- Two visitors at a time are welcome in your room.
- Visitors are asked to use the designated waiting areas until the patient is able to receive their visitor. This reduces congestion in the hallways and maintains patient privacy.
- Anyone recently exposed to a communicable disease (such as chicken pox, measles, whooping cough) should not visit.
- Smoking is not permitted anywhere on hospital grounds.
- Children under 12 may visit with the authorization of the provider or charge nurse.
- Children must not be left unattended anywhere in the hospital.
- No visitors permitted after 8 p.m.
Parking
Ample parking for out-patients and visitors is available in the east parking providing access to the main entrance on Hospital Road.
Parking for the Emergency Room and Visiting Physician Suite is available in the Avery Street parking lot at the west end of the hospital.
