Mission Statement:
The Internal Medicine Department works to promote the health and wellness of our patients through a variety of internal medical services.
Overview of Department
The Internal Medicine (IM) Department at Speare Memorial Hospital provides customized care for adult patients ages 13+. The IM department offers a wide variety of internal medical services, including diabetes management; cardiac care; and treatment for heart disease, high blood pressure, and lung disease. The IM staff provides manipulation therapy for patients in need of chiropractic services, as well as Coumadin management and in-office Coumadin clinics for cardiac patients.
Additionally, our IM unit offers extensive education on the proper use of medications; signs and symptoms of ailments; and proper methods of self-care for patients responsible for monitoring their blood pressure, proper diabetic care, asthma management, hypertension treatment, routine injections, and more.
Department Services:
Internal Medicine offers the following services to patients:
Diabetic Care
- Education on proper diet and administration of medications
- In-office monitoring of Hemoglobin (three-month rotation)
- Feet inspections for ulcers (three-month rotation)
- Hemoglobin A1Cs
- Referrals, as needed
Cardiac Care
- EKGs
- Coumadin clinics
- Referrals, as needed, to cardiologists and cardiac rehab (internal)
Biopsies
- Routine skin biopsies
- Cryosurgery
- Referrals, as needed
Additional Medical Services
- Urine analysis, Strep cultures, random blood sugars, pregnancy tests, Pap smears, breast exams, routine management of hyper tension, flu clinics (fall), routine injections, allergy shots
