Diabetic Exercise Program
Speare Memorial Hospital offers a supervised exercise program for people with diabetes held twice a week in the Cardiac Rehab Gym. The program is intended for the diabetic individual who has had education about their diabetes and keeping it under control, but who now looking to add physical activity to their lifestyle. Participants learn how to exercise safely while keeping their blood sugar levels in control. This group exercise program is supervised by a Certified Clinical Exercise Physiologist who monitors cardiovascular, strength training and flexibility components. The exercise physiologist will also work with the participant to develop an individualized home exercise routine.

This program is run throughout the year, and participants may join at any time. Physician permission is required.

Cancer and Recovery Exercise Program
The CaRE program is a supervised exercise program for patients who have a diagnosis of cancer and are undergoing chemotherapy/radiation treatment, or for the patient recovering from cancer. The CaRE Program meets in the Cardiac Rehab gym in a group exercise setting supervised by a Certified Clinical Exercise Physiologist and an Oncology Registered Nurse.   Individual goals are set and exercise tailored to the needs of each participant.

This program is run throughout the year, and participants may join at any time. Physician permission is required.

Back to Golf Program
Speare Memorial Hospital offers a golf conditioning program each spring. The 8 week program is held two nights a week in the Rehabilitation Services gym located at 20 Highland St. in Plymouth.

Designed by SMH´s physical therapy professionals, the Golf Conditioning program features golf-specific exercises to improve the body´s range of motion and strength through patterns of stretching and toning, helping golfers to understand the body mechanics necessary to enhance their game. The program strives to insure each participant has individualized attention and quality instruction, but participants are encouraged to work at their own pace, progressing at a rate that is comfortable for them.

Although the Golf Conditioning program has been developed to prepare golfers for the upcoming season, it benefits anyone seeking to improve their level of fitness and flexibility.

Ski Conditioning Program
Late fall is the time for skiers to start preparing for the upcoming season, and SMH’s Ski Conditioning Program fits the bill. Twice a week for eight weeks, participants work at their own pace under the guidance of SMH’s Rehabilitation Services staff, progressing at rate that is comfortable to them

The program includes a multi-station circuit of ski specific exercises in a state-of-the-art rehab gym. Functional patterns of movement, balance, agility and aerobic conditioning are emphasized using equipment such as the Biodex Balance System, Body Blade and Skiers Edge Mountain Master.

Sessions are held in the Rehabilitation Services gym located at 20 Highland St. Although the Ski Conditioning Program is designed to prepare skiers, anyone interested in improving their level of physical fitness is welcome.
