New Community Relations Director at Speare Memorial Hospital
 
PLYMOUTH, N.H. --- Michele Barney Hutchins has been appointed the new director of community relations at Speare Memorial Hospital. SMH’s President and CEO Michelle McEwen welcomed Hutchins at the hospital’s board of directors’ meeting earlier today.
“Michele has been our community relations consultant for the last several months and has done a superb job with our community relations program,” says McEwen. “Her experience and knowledge have greatly enhanced our media and advertising efforts. We are thrilled that she has joined us as our new community relations director.”

As director of community relations Hutchins is responsible for Speare Memorial Hospital’s community outreach including the annual Health & Wellness series, publications, advertising, media relations and the Web site. Additionally she will be supporting donor and legislative relations activities.
 
Hutchins is an experienced public relations practitioner, having most recently worked as the director of public relations at Plymouth State University. Prior to that she was the communications coordinator at New Hampshire Electric Cooperative, Inc., and worked in the marketing department at Waterville Company, Inc. Additionally, Hutchins has been active in the Plymouth community assisting various organizations including Voices Against Violence, is a past president of the Plymouth Chamber of Commerce and served on SMH’s board of directors from 1999 – 2002.
 
Staying connected with the community is one of the things that appeals most to Hutchins about her new position. She says, “Plymouth is a great place to live, work and play, and the hospital is one of the valued resources that contributes to the ideal quality of life the Plymouth area offers. Having the opportunity to help further the mission of the hospital by addressing and meeting the needs of the communities in central New Hampshire promises to be very rewarding.”
 
Hutchins is a member of the Public Relations Society of America and received her bachelor’s in mass communication/public relations from Winona State University in Winona, Minn. She is currently enrolled in the MBA program at Plymouth State University, where she also received her MBA Certificate in Organizational Communication.
