Prostate Cancer the Focus of SMH´s Health & Wellness Presentation

PLYMOUTH, N.H. --- September is Prostate Health Month and Speare Memorial Hospital is helping to raise awareness by opening its 2007 – 2008 Heath & Wellness series with Men´s Health: Prostate Cancer Contributing Factors, Symptoms and Treatment. The program is free and will be presented by Urologist Dr. Thomas Schwaab on Wednesday, September 26 at 7 p.m. in the Community Room at the Citizen´s Bank building in Plymouth.

According to Dr. Schwaab, the average 50 year old male has a 42% chance of developing prostate cancer, a 9% chance of demonstrating clinical symptoms and a 3% chance of dying from the disease. "It can be curable if detected early, so it is an important cancer to screen for," explains Dr. Schwaab. "The goal of my presentation is to have men understand what prostate cancer is, how it is detected and what is involved in the screening process."

Dr. Schwaab is on the medical staff at Speare Memorial Hospital as a visiting physician from the Concord Hospital Urology Group. He is accepting new patients and appointments can be made by calling 224-3388. Dr. Schwaab meets with patients in SMH´s Visiting Physician´s Office located on the second floor and accessible from the Avery St./Emergency Room entrance.

SMH´s annual Health & Wellness series covers a wide range of topics of interest. All presentations are free and held at 20 Highland St, Citizen´s Bank, in Plymouth, unless otherwise noted.
