PLYMOUTH, N.H.--- A love of the profession and New England are what led Dr. Kent Kirkland, orthopaedic surgeon, to accept a temporary assignment with Tenney Mountain Orthopedic Clinic at Speare Memorial Hospital. Dr. Kirkland joins the practice following the departure of Dr. Paul Scibetta, and marks his return to New Hampshire.
“Several years ago I practiced in Claremont, loved the area, and New Hampshire’s beautiful lakes,” recalls Dr. Kirkland. “I was excited by the opportunity at Speare, as it is a modern, clean, well organized hospital that will give me a chance to do the things I enjoy most: rural medicine, the excitement of being challenged everyday and explore New England.” |
| SMH President/CEO Michelle McEwen, FACHE, says, “We are so very fortunate to have Dr. Kirkland join us as we continue to recruit for a full-time orthopedic surgeon. His experience and our location made for a good fit professionally and personally.” | |
| Dr. Kirkland is board certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and has practiced orthopedics full-time for 40 years. He received his medical degree and completed his residency at the University of Colorado, followed by a Children’s Orthopaedic Fellowship at the Institute of Orthopaedics at the Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopedic Hospital, Oswestry, Shropshire in the United Kingdom. | |
| Dr. Kirkland’s specialties include total joint replacement, of which he did 200 a year in his previous practice, paediatric orthopaedics, athletic medicine and fractures. Off hours he is a serious bicyclist and nordic skier, which is also why he was attracted to Plymouth. | |
| Says Dr. Kirkland, “I fell in love with rural medicine because you really get to know the people. You see patients at the grocery store or in Wal-Mart and have an opportunity to build rapport with them. That coupled with the natural beauty of New England makes it feel like home—it feels right here.” | |
| Dr. Kirkland is accepting new patients and appointments can be made by calling Tenney Mountain Orthopedics at (603) 536-5803. The office is located in Speare Memorial Hospital across from the Emergency Room at 19 Avery Street in Plymouth. | |
| Speare Memorial Hospital is a 24-hour, acute care, non-profit community hospital and health care provider serving Plymouth and the communities of central New Hampshire for more than a century. | |
