SMH Laboratory Receives National Accreditation | |
| PLYMOUTH, N.H.--- Following a recent on-site inspection, Speare Memorial Hospital´s laboratory has been re-accredited by the Commission on Laboratory Accreditation of the College of American Pathologists (CAP), and recognized for the "excellence of the services being provided." Immediately following the CAP inspection, SMH´s laboratory was randomly selected, and also passed, an annual state/federal government inspection. | |
| "We are very pleased with the results of both inspections," states SMH´s Director of Laboratory Services Bob Ryan. "CAP is a voluntary accreditation, renewable every two years, which involves an in-depth inspection and measures our performance against industry best practices. The quality of our operation is further validated by the positive results of our surprise inspection by the federal government. One hospital a year is New Hampshire is randomly selected for inspection, and this was our year." | |

| Speare Memorial Hospital is one of more than 6,000 CAP-accredited laboratories nationwide. The CAP accreditation program is recognized by the federal government as being equal to or more stringent than the government´s own inspection program. During the accreditation process inspectors examine the laboratory´s records and quality control of procedures for the preceding two years. Inspectors also review staff qualifications, laboratory equipment, facilities, safety program and record, as well as the overall management of the lab. The goal of accreditation is to ensure the highest standard of care for patients. | |
