SMH Community Celebration to Focus on Heart Health
|
PLYMOUTH, N.H. --- What do red wine, dark chocolate and pomegranate juice all have in common? When discussing the human heart, they all possess powerful antioxidant properties that health experts say, when enjoyed in moderation, can promote heart health. Each will be featured at Speare Memorial Hospital’s Paint the Town Red reception on Friday, February 23. The community event will be held from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. at the hospital in the main entrance lobby and atrium.
The Paint the Town Red reception wraps up a month-long focus on heart health education and outreach to the community. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at Chase Street Market, Dressers Unlimited or by calling 238-2211. Proceeds from the event will support the purchase of a BioStep® Semi-Recumbent Elliptical machine for Cardiac Rehabilitation.
“The purpose of the event is to promote and celebrate heart health, and educate the community about the continuum of care available at Speare Memorial Hospital,” notes SMH’s Director of Community Relations Michele Hutchins.
Jazz musician Rik Pfenninger will provide a musical backdrop for the evening that will feature a red wine tasting, dark chocolate donated by Lindt, non-alcoholic pomegranate mimosas and heart healthy hors d’oeuvres. Following brief remarks by SMH President Michelle McEwen and cardiologist, Dr. Louis Fink, from the New England Heart Institute, a number of door prizes will be raffled off. Door prizes include: a one carat garnet set in a traditional 18 karat gold filigree pendant donated by Wolfson Jewelers and valued at $160; a gift basket from Chase Street Market; and Dark Classics chocolate collections from Lindt.
