Pathology (Laboratory)
The Department of Pathology performs tests on blood, urine, tissue, and other specimens, as requested by a healthcare provider. A pathologist is a physician who specializes in the selection, performance, and interpretation of laboratory tests and the examination of laboratory tests and the examination of surgical tissue. These tests are used in the diagnosis of your illness or in following the course of your illness and the effect of your treatment.
The fees for examining tissue (if required) will be billed by the pathologist to you directly.
Radiology
During the course of treatment at Speare Memorial Hospital, your physician may request tests to be performed by the Radiology Department. These tests are necessary to diagnose and evaluate your health and to assess the effects of your treatment. In addition to routine x-ray examinations, our Radiology Department is well equipped with the most modern facilities for CAT scanning, ultrasound, mammography, echocardiography, and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) testing. All of these tests are performed by trained technologists under the supervision of a radiologist, or in certain cases, by the radiologists themselves.
Your physician will consult with the radiologists about exams he orders and their results. These exams often require special preparation on your part, and some of them may be long and complicated, but we assure you that we will make your visit to radiology as comfortable and efficient as possible. Please remember that the fee for the radiologists' interpretation will be billed.
Anesthesiology
If you require anesthesia services while you are in the hospital, an anesthesia department representative will meet with you to evaluate and discuss your needs. Recommendations will be based on an evaluation of your medical history and physical findings, the procedure itself, and your wishes. A decision as to the safest, smoothest anesthetic course for your needs will be made. If a technique is recommended which you do not desire or do not understand, please ask for clarification.
