FUSE BEST With Colon5b Koren And CaseyColonoscopies save lives. A major medical breakthrough, considered the most significant colonoscopy innovation in twenty years, can save even more lives. And you can benefit from this advancement right here, at Speare – and nowhere else in the Granite State.

Surgeons use instruments called colonoscopes, or scopes, to look inside of your lower GI tract during a colonoscopy. A colonoscope is a flexible, thin tube with a fiberoptic camera at the tip that projects images onto a monitor. The camera can only project a limited, 170 degree view, of what is in front of it. Your surgeon moves the scope through your colon to find and remove any growths, called polyps. These can lead to colon cancer.

Nothing much has changed about the design of the scopes in the last two decades. Until now.

Plymouth General Surgery has invested in FUSE, a groundbreaking technology that allows our surgeons to see twice as much of the colon as they could before. This includes previously unseen areas like behind naturally occurring folds, where up to 41% of lesions may hide.

“This technology is completely different from what has been available,” says Dr. Joseph Casey. “By finding and removing polyps or growths hidden from traditional scopes, our patients receive the highest quality exam possible”.

Unlike traditional scopes, FUSE has three high-definition cameras that project a 330-degree panoramic view of the colon onto three monitors.

“A traditional scope is like driving a car with blinders,” says Dr. Casey, “you can only see what is in front of you. FUSE is like driving a car without the blinders, you suddenly have a clear view of what is around and behind you.”

A recent study found that FUSE detects up to 69% more polyps and growths than traditional scopes.

Colon cancer is the second leading cause of death in the United States, and can be prevented with early detection. FUSE is the best technology available to detect potential colon cancer.

“The FUSE system doesn’t just allow us to better detect colon cancer,” says Dr. Casey, “it allows us to better prevent it in the first place.”
